Join the BU Arts Initiative, as a part of BU Student Activities' Weeks of Welcome, as we welcome local Brazilian percussionist Marcus Santos, director of the innovative and creative drumming project Grooversity, for interactive, hands-on workshop on Brazilian Samba drumming.

*Open to current BU Students only*

Two ticket options are available:

  • BU Student - No Drum: Use your own drum, bucket and whatever you can find at home. We will send you more ideas too!
  • BU Student - With Drum: Rent a drum from the BU Arts Initiative - must be on campus to pick it up & return.

About Marcus & Grooversity

Grooversity is an innovative drumming network envisioned and led by Brazilian percussionist Marcus Santos. Ensemble leader and teaching artist Marcus Santos, is a native of Bahia, Brazil. He commits his life to the study, teaching and performance of his hometown’s Afro-Brazilian music and heritage. He has led numerous workshops on Afro-Brazilian percussion and music for Social Change in universities and conventions around the world, including MIT, Harvard, Brown University and Universidad Central de Venezuela and the Percussion Arts Society International Convention in 2007 and 2010.

Grooversity’s goal is to promote Afro-Brazilian percussion as an educational resource, entertainment and as a catalyst for social change. Grooversity focuses on community outreach for positive outcomes while targeting global diversity awareness. Grooversity has performed at the 2018 & 2019 BU Global Music Festival.
